digital dunhuang

The Dunhuang Academy is applying innovative photographic techniques to digitally model the grottoes in three dimensions, freezing them in time to create a permanent archive. It will soon begin construction of a state-of-the-art Visitor Center to digitally showcase Dunhuang’s treasures and inspire understanding of its role as China’s bridge to the great civilizations of Europe and Asia. Multilingual digital tours of the most significant caves will reduce the impact of mass tourism, supplementing tours of the actual caves and enhancing the visitor experience.
